While Florida struggles with the economic downturn which is reflected in state revenues, the FDOT work is still a mainstay for the construction industry, according to reports.

“It feels good to be Number One and it confirms the commitment and efforts of our employees to lead and not just follow,” says Ignacio Halley, Community’s Executive Vice President. “And, design/build is a method of contract that allows for innovative concepts and faster delivery for the owner even though the contractor assumes much more risk.”

Among the other firms taking home Top 20 honors this year was Lane Construction which is widening SR 50 in the Orlando area from SR 436 to SR 417 including an overpass at SR 436.

Posen Construction made the list with a contract to reconstruct I-275 in Tampa from the Howard Franklin Bridge to Himes Avenue and the reconstruction of US 1 in East Central Florida.

Despite the state revenue decline, costs seem to be stabilizing, according to Debbie Hunt, FDOT Assistant Secretary.  “Competition is good and we’re seeing lower prices, which is good for the people of Florida.”
